About The Author

John was born in Danbury, CT, but lived his childhood in the hamlet of Holmes, NY, and went to school in the nearby village of Pawling. Yes, so small it’s a hamlet. Let's move on. John's an eager devour-er of books, and has been since he was young. He was always rather preoccupied when it came to the creatures around him, from saving the earthworms seemingly stranded on the sidewalk to admiring snakes, frogs and other creatures that made other children (and adults) run screaming.
He went to school at Ohio Wesleyan University, and graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts (sigh) in Zoology in 2012. Juggling academics with jobs (whether being an RA, museum curator, or laboratory assistant), hobbies (read:birding), and hanging out with his friends, he was a founding member of the Citizens of the World House, one of OWU's Small Living Units dedicated to bringing all members of the OWU community together in order to better understand the peoples and cultures of the world, celebrate the campus' cultural diversity, investigate social justice issues around the globe, and help new students make the transition to living in such a diverse setting. Though he's graduated, he remains the houses' alumni contact, and keeps in touch.
John is particularly interested in a career in aviculture, which has taken him to the Kenai Peninsula of Alaska (Alaska SeaLife Center), the Oregon Coast (Oregon Coast Aquarium), smack-dab in the mainland of Wisconsin (International Crane Foundation), the wild city of New Orleans (Audubon Institute), and soon the beautiful Salt Lake City (Tracy Aviary). When not at an internship, he stays with his sister in the bay area, just outside San Francisco and San Jose.
